The Invention of Hugo Cabret
by Brian Selznick
Joel, can we have more read aloud time with this?

I’d imagine the whole world was one big machine. Machines never come with any extra parts, you know. They always come with the exact amount they need. So I figured, if the entire world was one big machine, I couldn’t be an extra part. I had to be here for some reason.

so, Joel and I went to see Hugo last night, and it was the most wonderful movie. It’s about this little kid who lives in the train station in Paris and he’s a tiny engineer and he becomes friends with a little writer and it’s so beautiful and such a good little story. I haven’t seen a children’s movie in the longest time, and this was a really good one. While we were walking home afterwards, Joel asked what it was called when children’s literature was meant for adults too and I just said, “It’s called good writing.”
It was wonderfully delightful and I highly recommend it.
